The upcoming school year marks the 20th anniversary of Mizzentop Day School. It also marks my 20th year as an educator and begins my new role as Head of School.

I am honored to be leading this institution during this significant year. As a teacher here for the past eleven years, I’ve come to realize that learning happens everywhere: in the halls, during recess, in the student center, on the athletic field and especially in the classroom. We are a coeducational Pre-K through 8th grade independent school with a stimulating and innovative academic program that is flexible enough to meet individual learning styles and differentiated instruction. MDS guides children toward independence and scholarship while supporting the development of character, creativity and problem solving skills all within a nurturing, safe and structured environment.

Working side by side with the faculty at Mizzentop for many years, they are the soul and strength of our mission. They are motivated by the love of their subjects, dedication to teaching and their commitment to the development of young children who become confident and competent citizens to society.

Our school culture is not only a function of content, information and skills, but of relationships and values, thoughtfully crafted by our Living Values Program and enlivened by our community service.

To learn more about our living values, our academics, athletics, arts, languages, technology, digital coding and more, I invite you to visit and experience the Mizzentop difference yourself.

For the journey ahead,

Karin Shultz
